Check out my new CLASSROOM and...
Happy Saturday! This past week was my first full week in my new position. And you won't believe what it is... Backstory: You probably know I went back into the classroom in August as a High School Geometry teacher. After our move and my husband's new job, my rotating teaching schedule with my commute became difficult to manage. I applied for both a 4th and 5th grade position at a school super close to my house. I interviewed for and was offered the job as a 5th grade teacher. But they weren't actually sure how they were going to use me. I started this past Monday, still unsure what I was going to be doing. I just started cleaning and rearranging my HUGE new, very empty classroom. On Tuesday I met with my principal (who is phenomenal). She said they decided, rather than splitting up the kids at this point in the year and building a brand new self contained class for me, they were going to lean on my math intervention expertise and put me into a math intervention type role for the rest of the school year. DID YOU HEAR THAT? "What if it all works out?" That has been my motto this school year. And look how it's working out. I'm thrilled to be able to do a job that really fulfills me and really makes me feel like I'm "home." I started meeting the kids over the last two days and, after district "new teacher" training on Monday and Tuesday, I'll start my new schedule and role fully on Wednesday. Let's take a quick peek at my room though. This is what I walked into... it's HUGE, quite dated and needed some love. It isn't ready enough yet to show you a full "after", but here are some of my favorite things... This bulletin board (click the image for the link - it's FABRIC and absolutely massive. Oh and ridiculously affordable). This bulletin board (click the image for the link) These lights around one of my bulletin boards (click the image for the link - I got 130 feet for under $10!). I have more work to do during my planning time this upcoming week and will share more soon! I hope your new year is starting off on the right foot and you have high hopes for yourself this year as a professional, but most importantly, as a person! Take care!
